How to use Xopenex for asthma

COPD

Xopenex is a bronchodilator used to relieve acute asthmatic fits. The remedy belongs to the group of fast-acting beta agonists that relax muscles around the airways. This influence makes airways get widen and let the asthmatic breathe in. Xopenes is usually used to relieve such asthma symptoms as coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing, and chest tightness. That’s why the remedy is often taken by patients that suffer from emphysema, asthma, bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The active component of the drug is levalbuterol hydrochloride.
The drug may be contained in a metered dose inhaler or nebulizer. It is not contraindicated to children after 4 years old to treat conditions that are commonly known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and, of course, asthma — asthma inhalers. Obstructive pulmonary disease may be described as such condition when the airways are easily blocked, caused either by inflammation or due to the airway muscles collapse.
A Xopenex inhaler is comfortable to use when a patient suffers from the muscle tension and other symptoms associated with bronchospasms. The principles of its work are as follows: after the drug was inhaled the active component influences the receptors in the soft tissue muscles of the airways, the muscles relax and let more air get into and through the lungs.
It is important to use a Xopenex inhaler as it was prescribed. Otherwise the effect of the drug will be imperceptible. Besides, as well as many other bronchodilators, Xopenex has side effects. Don’t worry if you become nervous, feel heartbeats or rapid heart rate. Consult a doctor as soon as possible if you feel chest pain and tremor and don’t take the remedy for a while. Others side effects may include headaches, insomnia, dizziness, coughing, nausea, diarrhea or anxiety. As a rule, these symptoms don’t occur for a long time and go away soon. Nevertheless, ask your doctor if these effects bother you.
It is not worth of using Xopenex Inhaler to control the asthma clinical course – the medicine is useful only as a short-acting remedy to stop asthma attacks quickly. If you noticed unusually frequent necessity to take Xopenex, call your doctor as it may be a sign that your condition got worse.
Let your doctor know about all the diseases you have ever suffered from as you may not be able to take Xopenex. Especially it deals with heart diseases, including irregular heartbeat or hypertension.
Use a Xopenex inhaler carefully if you have to take other medicines for other disorders at the same time, because levalbuterol can interact with other drugs and cause unexpected negative effects.
It is obligatory to read a patient’s information and use the device properly. If you didn’t feel the expected effect, call your doctor for a consultation.
