Effects of indapamide versus hydrochlorothiazide: DISCUSSION(2)

Previous comparisons between indapamide and HCTZ have been made, for the most part, on the basis of historical controls, ie, results from separate studies have been compared. Such comparisons are at high risk of being confounded. Our direct comparison, though limited to a small sample, suggests that there are no significant advantages of indapamide with respect to lipids, blood glucose or uric acid.

With respect to the doses used, the comparable effect on diastolic blood pressure with the two doses suggests that the chosen doses were appropriate for comparison.

In view of the much higher purchase cost of indapamide, these findings should be tested in a larger trial because there are potentially important policy considerations that flow from our results. buy antibiotics online

It would be appropriate to compare lower doses now in more common use.
